From the ChancellorMarch 17, 2020
Last October, the University of Alaska Board of Regents directed UAF, UAA and UAS to conduct expedited academic program reviews as part of our plan to handle budget reductions. On Monday, March 9, the Expedited Academic Program Review Committee released its recommendations regarding UAF’s academic program review (select “Recommendations”).
These recommendations include suspension of two and deletion of 21 of the 86 programs reviewed. Fourteen of the 86 programs were already suspended prior to the expedited academic review and are on track for deletion. This is a process, and the committee recommendations are just the first step. Public comment is open until March 20. You can share your thoughts online (select “Feedback”).
Chancellor White will review the feedback and make recommendations on March 23, 2020, on whether a program should continue, continue with improvement, revise or restructure, reduce, be suspended or be deleted. The Board of Regents will hear public testimony prior to their June meeting, when they will make a final decision. Student welfare is always UAF’s top concern. Should there be changes to an academic program, UAF will work closely with each affected student to find the best option for them to complete the degree they enrolled in.
You are invited to join Chancellor Dan White and Provost Anupma Prakash on Thursday, March 19, from 5-6 p.m. for an online community listening session on UAF’s expedited academic program review recommendations. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts. In response to COVID-19 prevention efforts, and offered via audio conference in listen-only mode. Please submit your comments online for the Q&A portion of the forum..
