Dr. David Valentine

Professor of Ecosystem Ecology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. David Valentine has served the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1996 to 2024; and

WHEREAS Dr. Valentine has an exemplary teaching record, covering courses ranging from the undergraduate to graduate level; and he advised three doctoral and two master’s degree recipients and served on dozens of graduate and undergraduate dissertation and thesis committees; and

WHEREAS Dr. Valentine’s research has extensively explored the changing Alaska boreal forest ecosystem; and he has been an author on more than thirty peer-reviewed papers and made dozens of presentations; and

WHEREAS Dr. Valentine served as chair of two departments, school academic director, director of the Forest Soils Laboratory and a member of numerous university committees; and he served as president of the Faculty Senate and chair of the Faculty Alliance; and he has volunteered for scientific committees and journals, professional societies, K-12 science symposiums and fairs, and the board of a nonprofit educational farm;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. David Valentine for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Valentine and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. David Valentine as professor of ecosystem ecology, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. David Valentine, and conveyed to Dr. Valentine on this third day of May, 2024.
