Earlier today, UA President Jim Johnsen announced that all senior administrators, including faculty who hold senior administrative positions, will be required to take mandatory furloughs in FY21. UA HR will distribute notices to affected employees on April 30.

Furloughs are being issued as part of a systemwide FY21 budget savings strategy. More information about furloughs can be found on the UA HR website under .

Furloughs for Officers of the University, Provost Prakash and me are 10 days, and for all other senior administrators it is 8 days, with some exceptions. Additional guidance is forthcoming for administrators who charge a portion of their salary to restricted funding sources such as grants and contracts.

There is no doubt that during this unprecedented time, UAF’s senior leaders are working more, not less. During the budget crisis, the COVID-19 crisis and the state’s budget uncertainty, their job is even more challenging. I offer my personal gratitude to UAF’s senior leaders for their hard work and commitment to UAF. Your continued leadership and support for our students, faculty and staff is important and very much appreciated. Thank you for choosing UAF.
