Dear UAF faculty and staff,

I am pleased to announce that UAF School of Management faculty member Peggy Keiper will serve as interim athletic director for the Alaska Nanooks. Peggy will step into the position on Feb. 1.

The initial decision to combine the vice chancellor of student affairs and athletic director positions 18 months ago was done to help integrate athletics more into the student experience. However, since then, demands in both areas have increased, and appointing a full-time athletic director will ensure athletics has the support it needs, while enabling Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne to focus his efforts on modernizing the student experience and strategic enrollment planning. I would like to thank Keith for his service to athletics throughout the last year and a half.

Peggy currently serves as director of the sport and recreation business program in the School of Management and has a doctorate in sport administration from the University of New Mexico. Prior to joining the UAF faculty in 2017, she worked for nearly a decade as a coach, sport business manager and director. I am thankful that Peggy has agreed to step up and serve in this capacity while we search for a permanent, full-time athletic director.

In the coming weeks, we will conduct a search and hope to have the position filled by June 2021.

Thank you for your support of the Alaska Nanooks.

Thank you for choosing UAF.

Dan White, chancellor
