Research interests/biography

Larson focuses on how animals and their parasites cope with environmental changes. Researches how parasites overwinter and how changes in host physiology influence parasite overwintering strategies using two animal models: the wood frog, Lithobates sylvaticus, and the causative agent of swimmer’s itch in Alaska, Trichobilharzia alaskensis. Expertise in parasitology, overwintering physiology, arts-science pedagogy, amphibians, swimmer’s itch and freeze tolerance.
