Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of what we, the academic department need to review your file for making decisions about acceptance into our programs.  This is different than the requirements to be admitted to UAF.

  1. Resume
  2. Statement of Goals - see for content requested
  3. Transcripts - we can review with unofficial transcripts
  4. Letters of Recommendation - we can start the review with 1, but all three is required.

Again, this is what we need to review your file.  To be admitted to UAF all the requirements in the application portal must be fulfilled

You can but it could delay there availability to the academic department due to extended processing times at these peak workload periods.  They should not be emailed to departments but directly to the Admissions Office.

Yes, but you will need to contact the Office of Admissions to do this.

No, not for the Department of Geosciences graduate degree programs.  Our faculty use other metrics to evaluate applicants.  You may upload the scores if you have them into the application portal and they will be included in your file for review.

Generally this is a UAF required item, but the department has a waiver for this requirement.  It may initially show on your application portal as required, but will be marked as waived.

New graduate students accepted into our programs are accepted with a funding plan.  This is in the form of a Research Assistantship and may be in combination with a Teaching Assistantship for one semester or one academic year.  Those are topics a faculty member will talk with you about if they contact you about your application.

If you already have funding or partial funding for your graduate degree that is great information to know up front, at the time of application.

This is an item required by UAF and the department can not waive this requirement.  More information about the evaluations can be found

This document is required for immigration documentation I-20 issuance, so is not needed unless you are accepted.  It does not need to be completed for the application review.

You can find a link to the form and more information

Possibly, check for details.

On occasion we can waive this requirement, but the determination to request a waiver will come through faculty members you are in contact with.  They will base the request on both your oral and written English communications with them, and any published work done in English.
