Degree Completion

The Interdisciplinary Studies major with a General Studies concentration is known as UAF's Degree Completion Option. It is a pathway to graduation for students who are unable to complete any other particular major offered at UAF. This fast track to graduation program is meant for students with 90 or more credits, either from UAF or from another accredited institution. Students in the General Studies concentration have the flexibility to choose classes that are meaningful and relevant to their educational interests and career goals while completing requirements needed to earn their degree.

Bachelor of Arts - Students in the General Studies concentration pursuing a BA must meet all the GER and BA requirements, as well as finishing a minor

Bachelor of Science - Students in the General Studies concentration pursuing a BS must meet all the GER and BS requirements including a calculus course, additional math elective, and a natural science sequence

Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences - Students in the General Studies concentration pursuing a  BAAS must have a previously earned AAS degree from an accredited institution. They also must complete all GER and BAAS requirements

The Degree Completion Option can be completed either in-person or online. This does depend on the specific courses that the student would like to take. Students should work with their advisor to determine what courses and what delivery methods will work best for them. 

In addition to the GERs, Degree Specific Requirements, and General University Requirements, the Degree Completion Option requires 30 elective credits (either upper or lower division) to be applied to the major. There is also a 0-credit, free Capstone Course ( required of all General Studies students.

To be admitted to the General Studies concentration students must:

  • Be currently admitted to a bachelor's degree at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. If you need to apply, follow the instructions here.
  • Have completed at least 90 credits college credits
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Meet with an Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies Advisor. You can make an intake appointment here
