Alaska 4-H members involved in leadership activities stand outside Coca-Cola's headquarters in Atlanta during a 4-H Congress event in November 2024.

Find out what 4-H is all about during an open house hosted Feb. 1 by clubs in the Tanana District, headquartered in ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø.

4-H is open to all youths who turned 5 as of Aug. 15, 2024, up to age 18. Clubs meet monthly to work on projects such as sewing, cooking, arts and crafts, livestock, horses and more. These projects help youths learn life skills to help them be ready for the future and make a difference today. In 2024, 4-H members spearheaded the effort in the Legislature to create Alaska 4-H Day, which is now celebrated on the first Wednesday in October.

4-H is part of the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø Cooperative Extension Service. Volunteers, who are thoroughly screened, lead the clubs. The Tanana District covers the region from Tok to Healy to McGrath and north of ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. Clubs are active in ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, Salcha, Delta Junction, North Pole and Eagle.

The open house will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, from noon to 3 p.m., in Room 108 of UAF’s University Park Building, 1000 University Ave., in ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø. The public is welcome, and parking is free.
