Ice Box Literary Journal call for submissions

Ice Box, the undergraduate literary journal at the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, is now accepting submissions for its 2025 print issue. The journal, published annually by UAF students, seeks original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, hybrid writing, and visual art from current undergraduate students across all UAF campuses.
Submissions are open until Dec. 15, 2024. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in at least one class at UAF during the 2024–25 academic year, including those attending UAF’s rural and community campuses. Ice Box editors review all entries through ENGL 475: Practicum in Literary Publishing, a spring semester course in which students gain hands-on experience in editing and producing the journal.
Ice Box is a unique opportunity for UAF students to see their creative work in print. The literary journal welcomes submissions from all undergraduate students, whether they’re studying here in ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø or attending classes remotely through UAF’s community campuses.
Students can submit up to three poems, fiction or nonfiction up to 6,000 words, or three pieces of visual art. Hybrid work, which blends genres or formats, is also encouraged. Each submission must follow specific guidelines, including blind submission requirements to ensure fairness in the review process.
Since its inception in 2001, Ice Box has evolved from a student zine into a professionally produced journal. It has consistently provided a platform for emerging UAF writers and artists, offering them exposure and recognition. Volume 21, the upcoming 2025 issue, will continue this legacy, featuring student work in print.
In addition to submitting creative work, students interested in learning the process behind publishing a literary journal can enroll in ENGL 475 this spring. The course provides experience in every aspect of the editorial process, from reviewing submissions to designing the final print layout.
