The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team and UAF athletic director Brock Anundson have announced a four-year contract extension for head coach Brian Scott. Scott is currently entering his eighth year as the head coach of the Nanooks' volleyball program, first taking over in 2015.
“We are extremely excited about the future of our volleyball program with Coach Scott at the helm," said Anundson “He’s done an incredible job in his tenure with the Nanooks, building a championship-caliber team that continues to excel both academically and athletically. We look forward to him guiding our volleyball student-athletes for years to come.â€
Scott took over in 2015 and, since then, the team has done nothing but improve. After a combined nine wins in his first two seasons, the Nanooks jumped to a dozen wins in 2017, their most in nearly a decade. They then bested that a year later, posting a 14-13, 12-8 GNAC record, their first season over .500 since the 2008 season, when they posted a 15-10 record. In their first season back post-COVID, the Nanooks posted another historical GNAC record—18-12, 11-7—the most wins since 1996 and the most under coach Scott.
The Nanooks volleyball team has shared as much success in the classroom as on the court. In the previous two academic years, the Nanooks have posted a 3.79 cumulative team GPA for the 2020-21 academic year, the highest in the department, and a 3.71 cumulative team GPA in the 2021-22 academic year, the second-highest in the department.
Alaska will open their 2022 season on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022 in Honolulu, Hawaii. With a matchup against Hawaii Hilo and No. 25 Chaminade before playing Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022.
