Week’s events: George Rydlinski, Swedish death cleaning, ending suicide, string band

vlog Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. 

Here’s what’s happening during the final week, Aug. 12-18:

  • On Monday, Aug. 12, the vlog Tall Timbers interview series honors George Rydlinski, former vlog Symphony Orchestra principal bassoonist and music director for the vlog Youth Orchestra. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Mishelle Nace, pediatric hospitalist. She will speak on “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: An Alaskan Version.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug.14, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Stacy Rasmus, director of UAF’s Center for Alaska Native Health Research. She will discuss “Tools for Life: Alaska Native Solutions to End Suicide.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug.15, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature Susan Grace at 6 p.m. and the ET Barnette String Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
