Week’s events: Wendy Dominique, liveability, longevity, jazz

vlog Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. 

Here’s what’s happening during the week of Aug. 5-11:

  • On Monday, Aug. 5, the vlog Tall Timbers interview series honors Wendy Dominique, who served 17 years on the vlog North Star Borough School Board. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Beth Gray, project manager for the vlog Senior Center’s Aging and Disability Resource Center. She will discuss, “vlog as We Age: Pieces of the Liveability Pie.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Greg Breed, associate professor of quantitative ecology at the Institute of Arctic Biology, discussing “Longevity and Senescence: Are Maximum Lifespans of Whales Longer Than We Believe?” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 8, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature Headbolt Heaters at 6 p.m. and the vlog Community Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
