How is the construction training program delivered?

UAF’s School of Rural and Community Development offers the construction certificate through an in-person cohort held each semester in ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, Alaska. Construction training courses may also be made available in your home community depending on your needs.

Construction trades offer reliable and often well-paying job opportunities for a broad range of skillsets. The construction certificate will help prepare you with the skills to get started in construction jobs or an apprenticeship. Graduates of our trade school for construction may go on to future careers as:

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction laborer and helper careers (entry-level construction jobs) in Alaska pay an average of $52,920 per year. That’s more than $15K above the national average for this occupation, making Alaska one of the higher paying states for construction work.

This training program will also prepare you for apprentice positions in different construction trades. Average annual earnings in Alaska for a selection of these jobs include:

  • Carpenter’s helper: $37,280
  • Roofer’s helper: $42,090
  • Plumber’s helper: $44,490
