Trailblazers and Populists: UAF Faculty Shines at APSA
Two members of UAF's Political Science Department recently returned from the American
Political Science Association (APSA) Annual Meeting, held in Philadelphia from Sept.
5-8. The APSA conference is one of the largest gatherings for political scientists,
offering a platform for scholars to share their research and engage with colleagues
from around the world.
Carol Gray, Assistant Professor of Public Law and coordinator of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, presented her paper titled In Search of Mary Miles Bibb: Trailblazer, Abolitionist, Educator during a panel on Race and Politics in Canada. Gray’s research highlights the life and legacy of Mary Miles Bibb, a pioneering abolitionist and educator whose contributions have often been overlooked in history.
Assistant Professor Russell Luke, also from the Political Science Department, participated in a panel titled Explaining Voter Support for Populism. He presented his paper, Spatial Modeling for the Populist Era, which delves into the factors driving voter support for populist movements in today’s political climate.
Both presentations showcase the significant research being conducted by UAF’s Political Science faculty, contributing to key discussions in their respective fields.
