ADA accommodations within UAF facilities

UAF recognizes and supports the standards set forth in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and Accessibility of Buildings for People with Disabilities (ICC/ANSI A117.1) which are designed to eliminate discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities.

The Division of Design and Construction (DDC) has been designated to coordinate the removal of barriers to physical facilities for students, employees and visitors at all UAF campuses. Under the ADA and Section 504, the university must make alterations to existing facilities if they are readily achievable. New construction is designed and constructed in accordance with the specific guidelines set forth in the 2010 ADA and ANSI A117.1.

DDC interacts with other departments and offices such as; UAF Disability Services, Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Parking Services, Office of Information Technology and Resident Life to ensure full physical access to, and participation in university activities. The Office of Disability Services and Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity make the determination and recommendations for physical reasonable accommodation. DDC implements plans and manages the specific physical accommodation needs. DDC will determine the most cost effective reasonable physical accommodation.
