Generally you should get a response within 24 hours. However, depending on the time of year (end of fiscal year and beginning of school in the fall are busier) it could take longer to respond and set-up a meeting regarding your request. In some instances, the request is of a nature that requires extensive research and in-house evaluation prior to responding to the user.
The department requesting the work will pay for the modification. Facilities Services will provide estimates to all university departments for both small projects and larger alterations and renovations. If the design and estimate are acceptable, then the department gives the "Okay" and provides an account number to charge the design and construction costs to.

Facilities Services will review the estimate and drawing with you. You need to determine if the project is within your budget and will accommodate your requested work. Remember estimates are valid for 60 days, so you have a few days to determine if you actually require this work to be done.

Facilities Services will provide estimates to all university departments for both small projects and larger alterations and renovations. Estimates for larger alterations and renovations may be verbal and be of an ‘Order of Magnitude’ Nature, i.e.: a very rough estimate. These are given when the user requests an estimate number to determine if they should proceed to the next step. On larger projects, if the user wishes to proceed to the next step, we will request they provide funding in order for us to generate a more detailed estimate. If the design and estimate are acceptable, then the department gives the "Okay" and provides an account number to charge the design and construction costs to.

The length depends upon the complexity of the request. Please allow approximately a month to complete routine projects. Remember, within 24 hours you should hear from Facilities Services personnel, who will and set-up a meeting with you and discuss your project timeline.
Depending on workload, construction may be done by Facilities Services Maintenance division on a fixed price work order. The other option is contracting with local contractors through competitive bidding. If the contract route is required, Facilities Services Division of Design and Construction will handle the contract. Typically, if the project construction costs exceed $50,000, it may require the services of an outside Architectural/ Engineering firm. The Director of Facilities Services is the delegated authority for the approval of all contracts having to do with repairs for public improvements to university facilities.
