    Benefactor fund grants available to student groups

    Student and campus groups can apply for a grant of up to $1,000 from the UAF Alumni Association. The funds will support projects that identify specific needs and improve campus opportunities for current students. The application deadline is Oct. 23.

    Assessing future of Alaskan berries in changing climate

    Alaska Berry Futures, in collaboration with the Alaska Climate Adaption Center, has released the report "Cloudberry in a Changing Climate: Threats and Opportunities." The report is the first of six in a series that assess major berry groups important to rural and urban Alaskan communities. Forthcoming reports in the “Berries in Alaska’s Changing Environment” series include bog blueberries and lowbush cranberries, among others.

    As the newly minted vice provost and accreditation liaison officer, I wanted to first welcome everyone back to the new academic year. Fall has always been my favorite time of year, and a large reason for that is the excitement that comes with the start of the new school year. Fall is also a time for reflection as we forge ahead into a new academic year. This fall semester should be a particularly exciting time for reflection because we will (1) implement the second year of our revamped academic program review process and (2) host a peer-evaluation team from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities for our Mid-Cycle (year 3) Accreditation Evaluation site visit. Since I will be overseeing both endeavors, I wanted to highlight them for your awareness and because many of you will be involved in these processes.

Over the summer, there was a 300% increase in people using the food pantry. From Aug. 21-30 the program has received as many requests for assistance as it did in the first six weeks of fall 2022.

    At Center ICE, we provide a six-week National Science Foundation Innovation Corps Site (I-Corps) program to accelerate academic research and startup business projects that are ready to move toward commercialization. Through the I-Corps program, teams complete 15 – 20 interviews over the six weeks. The closing date for the next cohort is 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3.
