2024/25 Academic Year headshot photo schedule
September 04, 2024
For those who need a headshot photo, UAF’s photo day will be Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge (indoor only). No appointments are required for this date; drop in and get your photo taken care of! If you are unavailable on Sept. 11, individual appointments can be made the first Thursday of each month during the fall semester, and the third Thursday monthly during the spring semester.

An Introduction to Mindfulness

Join Robyn Henry, professor of Rural Human Services, for a short course on mindfulness, with applications to our work in higher education. In four, 1-hour sessions beginning Sept. 11, Henry will work with participants to explore the connection between their thoughts and emotions and how they can use the present moment and their compassion for others to create peace during turbulent times.

Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship welcomes 10th class

Sixteen early-career scientists and professionals were selected for the 2024-2025 Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship. These Fellows will start this summer and fall, working around the state in support of Alaska's coastal communities and marine resources.

Call for art: Attention all creative faculty and staff

The first-ever "Beyond the 9-5" art exhibit is coming to the University Art Gallery to showcase the creations of the artistic people working at UAF. UAF non-art faculty and staff are invited to submit one piece of ready-to-hang or ready-to-display work. The show will run from Sept. 23 to Oct. 4, with an opening reception on Friday, Sept. 27 from 5-7 p.m.

Friday Focus: Make adventures be all your fault

Several years ago, one of my best friends gave me a birthday card with a photo of two old(er) ladies on it. At the top it read "We've been through a lot together." Nice sappy Hallmark greeting, right? But then, right after that, it read "And most of it was your fault." Can you believe that? I keep that card hanging up where I can see it regularly because, first of all, it is funny, and second, it reminds me of the importance of trying new things and occasionally getting yourself and your friends and family involved in something that, at the time, maybe doesn't seem like such a good idea after all.

This is a no-cost service offered to enrolled students residing in the United States. These virtual mental health services are available 24/7, 365 days/year, and include immediate crisis care and up to nine ongoing counseling sessions per academic year.
